Medial Medullary Syndrome
It is due to occlusion of the vertebral artery and its branches produce ischemia of the hypoglossal nucleus, corticospinal tract, medial lemniscus, producing weakness of tongue and contralateral hemiparesis.
Lateral Medullary Syndrome
It is due to occlusion of the vertebral or posterior inferior cerebellar artery led to ischemia of the nuclei and tracts in the lateral medulla producing symptoms like vertigo, nausea, loss of taste and Horner syndrome.
