पाठ्यक्रम के बारे में
The medulla contains cranial nerve nuclei IX, X, XI, and XII, as well as parts of the trigeminal, vestibular, and cochlear nuclei. It also includes functional groups such as general somatic and special visceral afferent/efferent groups, including the nucleus ambiguus and nucleus solitarius. Additionally, it contains nuclei related to the cerebellum, such as the inferior olivary and arcuate nuclei. All ascending and descending tracts for sensory and motor information pass through the medulla. Notably, the sensory discriminatory tract decussates within the medulla, and the motor corticospinal tract decussates at the lower medulla.
The arterial supply is provided by the vertebral, anterior spinal, and posterior inferior cerebellar arteries. Please note that occlusion of these arteries results in medial and lateral medullary syndromes.
