About the Course

Oxytocin is the drug of choice for induction and augmentation of labour. Its safe use requires appropriate patient selection, precise dose titration, and close monitoring of maternal and fetal status. Oxytocin is also the drug of choice for the prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and is particularly preferred in women with hypertension, in whom ergometrine is contraindicated. Oxytocin analogues are available in intranasal and buccal formulations and may be used for similar indications; however, their clinical effects can be inconsistent.
