Radioactive Isotopes & Its uses in cancer patients

About the Course

Radioactive isotopes play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. These isotopes emit radiation that can be detected or used to destroy cancer cells. In diagnostic procedures, they are used in imaging techniques such as PET scans to identify tumors and monitor disease progression. In treatment, radioactive isotopes are used in radiotherapy to target and kill cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Certain isotopes can be introduced into the body to deliver radiation directly to the tumor. They are also used in brachytherapy, where radiation sources are placed inside or near the tumor. This targeted approach improves treatment effectiveness and reduces side effects. Overall, radioactive isotopes have significantly advanced cancer care by enabling precise diagnosis and effective therapy.
