Xenobiotics in Diseases

About the Course

This presentation explains about Xenobiotics, which are foreign chemical substances toxic to our body. Biotransformation is the conversion of these toxic metabolites into nontoxic water soluble compounds favoring excretion through kidney by detoxification reactions. Phase I reactions mainly involve cytochrome p450 group of enzymes and Phase II reactions are conjugation reactions. Sometimes these reactive end products can cause cellular injury and also precipitate cancer when mutated.
