पाठ्यक्रम के बारे में

Oral cavity carcinoma is a malignant tumor occurring in the tissues of the mouth, most commonly as squamous cell carcinoma. It commonly affects the tongue, buccal mucosa, floor of the mouth, gingiva, and palate. Major risk factors include tobacco smoking or chewing, alcohol consumption, and areca nut/gutkha use. Patients may present with a non-healing ulcer, oral growth, white or red patch, pain, bleeding, difficulty in swallowing, or restricted mouth opening. Diagnosis is usually confirmed by biopsy, while imaging helps determine the extent and stage of the disease. Treatment depends on the stage and may involve surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these. Early diagnosis and cessation of risk factors are important for better outcomes.
