पाठ्यक्रम के बारे में
Thrombocytopenia is a condition in which the platelet count in the blood is lower than normal, affecting the body’s ability to form clots and stop bleeding. In children, it can occur due to infections, medications, bone marrow problems, or immune-related disorders. A common immune cause is Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system mistakenly destroys platelets. ITP often develops after a viral infection and is one of the most frequent causes of thrombocytopenia in children. Symptoms may include easy bruising, petechiae (small red or purple spots on the skin), nosebleeds, gum bleeding, and prolonged bleeding from minor injuries. Diagnosis is usually made through blood tests showing a low platelet count. In many children, especially with ITP, the condition is temporary and resolves on its own. Treatment depends on the severity and may include observation, corticosteroids, or intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). Regular monitoring is important to prevent bleeding complications.-
