About the Course

This lecture provides a comprehensive overview of vaccines, focusing on their composition, mechanism of action, and various types used in clinical practice. It begins with the basic concept of vaccines as biological agents that stimulate protective immunity through the use of specific antigens. The session then systematically discusses different categories of vaccines, including live-attenuated, inactivated, subunit, recombinant, polysaccharide, conjugate, mRNA, toxoid, and viral vector vaccines, highlighting their principles, advantages, limitations, and examples. Emphasis is placed on understanding immune responses such as T-cell dependent and independent mechanisms, as well as the relevance of booster doses and safety considerations. By the end of the lecture, students will gain a clear understanding of vaccine classification and their role in disease prevention and immunization programs.
