About the Course

Purpose: The purpose of this unit is to develop an in-depth understanding of the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) programme and referral systems.
 
Time required: Three hours

Prerequisite: This unit should be read after Unit 9 of Course 3.

    1. Describe the role of an ASHA and the activities expected from her
    2. Enumerate the expected health outcomes of her work
    3. Describe institutional arrangements for her support and supervision
    4. Explain the role of programme managers in the ASHA programme and referrals
    5. Understand the training process of an ASHA  
    6. Describe ASHA’s role in home visits and referrals
